Cleaning Your Bulldog's Wrinkles- A Guide For Pet Parents
For many pet owners, caring for a bulldog (or any brachycephalic breed) can be challenging. And one of the most common concerns is how to keep their faces clean. While there are a variety of methods out there, here is our recommended routine for cleaning your bulldog's wrinkles.
Set A Regular Schedule For Cleaning Your Bulldog's Wrinkles
Your bulldog's face will need regular care, requiring you to clean it at least several times a week. And some pups will require an even greater frequency than this. Regardless, be sure to keep to a regular routine so that your bulldog's face stays at its healthiest. We recommend wiping your pup's face down at night so that you can clean off all the dirt and grime from the day. Some pet owners have found a quick wipe with a facial tissue or water-based wipe works well between cleanings. It would be best to start with a cleaning every day and gradually reducing to every other day or several times a week, depending on your dog's skin.
Build Up Your Arsenal
The right products will make a world of difference for your bulldog's face. Bacteria can easily grow between the damp folds of your pup's skin, so your goal should be to keep them dry and clean. Unscented facial tissues do an excellent job of soaking up any moisture without irritating their skin. Desitin diaper rash cream will also help to keep their folds nice and dry. A mix of hydrogen peroxide and water is a great way to keep the bacteria at bay. Fill a small spray bottle with water and add 2-3 capfuls of hydrogen peroxide. Some bulldog owners choose to also apply a wrinkle ointment with ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil, and rosemary to help combat bacteria and treat/prevent irritation.
Apply With Products With Care
When cleaning your bulldog's wrinkles, first begin by wiping their face down with a water-based wet wipe or a damp towel. Dry their face with a soft towel or facial tissue. Shake your hydrogen peroxide/water solution to mix and then spray a small amount to a cotton ball or q-tip and apply gently between the folds of your dog's face. Be sure to dry your dog's wrinkles again. Then, apply just a dab between their wrinkles with a q-tip and wipe off any excess with a soft tissue. You can also apply an ointment cream in a similar way.

Cleaning your bulldog's wrinkles will help to prevent irritation, redness, and problems such as yeast/bacteria buildup. It can also help to avoid conditions such as infection and dermatitis.
